Structure and achievements

The workload of the AMPHORA project has been structured in 9 fields of work. Each field is leaded by an expert, resulting in 9 interdependent work packages (WP).

WP1 - Creation of a European Alcohol Policy Research Alliance
Involving all work package leaders and beneficiaries, the management team will oversee and coordinate the whole project.
WP2 - Integrated policy making
Evaluation of effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of policy interventions will be performed in a common framework so that the outcome will enable comparisons across countries and time. Also, this second work package will estimate joint effects of multiple interventions.

WP3 - Analysis of the interaction of socio- cultural, economic and demographic determinants of the effectiveness of alcohol policy

Social and cultural determinants that can affect alcohol consumption and alcohol-related harm will be identifyed and their change over time will be described.  The final goal is the selection of those policies and programmes with the highest probability of success
WP4 - Study the effect  of marketing on alcohol consumption
This work package focuses on quantification of exposure to alcohol advertisement in young people. The resulting evidence will be used  to examine individual and overall impact on their habits over three years.
WP5 - Study the impact of price and availability
The analysis of effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of alcohol taxes, pricing, availability and access will enable estimation of their synergic impact to reduce harm done by alcohol.
WP6 - Compare the service provision for early identification and the management of alcohol use disorders
Four elements have been designed for the analysis of early identification of alcohol use disorders and the public health impact of these interventions.
WP7 -Analyzing the drinking environments and alcohol-related harm and reducing the harm   from surrogate and illegally produced alcohol
The first element in this work package pursues the identification of key factors in drinking environments associated with alcohol-related harm. The second complementary element will collect untaxed alcoholic beverages to examine their alcohol content and other potentially health-threatening contaminants.

Achievements WP7:

Developement of a rapid and mobile tool for determination of alcohol strenght.

Peer-reviewed publication on risk assessment of diethyl phthalate in alcoholic beverages with special regard to unrecorded alcohol.

WP8 -Analysis of infrastructures for alcohol policy
The four elements in this work package devote to the determination of the impact of public perceptions of alcohol-related harm. Also, the comprehensiveness and integration in alcohol policy and analysis of infrastructures will be scaled.
WP9 - Translating science into policy
The dissemination strategy includes two Expert and Counterpart Meetings (2010 and 2011) and a European Alcohol Policy (2012), as well as relevant conferences, workshops and publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Achievements WP9

Wide disseminated in relevant workshops, conferences and networks during the first year of operation.
